PES School Announcements
UPDATE ON SCHOOL CALENDAR CHANGE
All Floyd County Schools beginning March 31st will be extending the school day by 45 minutes.  This extended day will continue until the end of the school year.

Prestonsburg Elementary start time will 7:45 a.m. and end time will be 3:15 p.m. 
KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION

Prestonsburg Elementary will be having Kindergarten Registration on April 7 and April 11 beginning at 8:30 and ending at1:00 each day.  

YOUR CHILD CANNOT ENTER KINDERGARTEN FOR THE 2014-15 SCHOOL YEAR UNLESS HE OR SHE HAS MET THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS:
 
 
  1. FIVE (5) YEARS OLD BY OCTOBER 1
Children five (5) years old by October 1 are required to attend kindergarten before they can enter first grade.                      
 
2.     MEDICAL EXAMINATION
 A medical examination on the KDE/DDS Preventative Health Care Examination Form (KDE SHS002) must be performed within TWELVE MONTHS PRIOR TO THE ENTRY DATE INTO KINDERGARTEN. The exams must be signed by a Physician/APRN/PA/EPSDT Provider (Health Department). 
 
  1. OFFICIAL COPY OF STUDENT’S BIRTH CERTIFICATE
 Applications for an official birth certificate (VS-37-Rev. 1/30/12) can be obtained at the health department, principal’s office or the central office. The cost is $10.00. The billfold size is not acceptable. You must present the certified copy you received from Frankfort to your principal; it will have a seal pressed into the paper which verifies that it is a certified copy. Your school will then make a copy to become part of your child’s permanent records and the official copy returned to the parent. If the birth certificate is not available, please contact your principal immediately. Principals refer to Missing Children Report.   1. KENTUCKY IMMUNIZATION CERTIFICATE (EPID-230, 230a, 230b, or 230c. Rev. 08/2010)
 All immunizations must be up-to-date by age requirement and listed on the certificate. The certificate is to be signed by a private physician, APRN, PA, pharmacist or health department designee along with a completed expiration date.  (No photo copies accepted). All students shall have two (2) dose of varicella (chickenpox) vaccine, unless a physician provides a written statement attached to the immunization certificate stating the child has had a diagnosis of varicella. The three (3) dose Hepatitis B series is required for Kindergarten. At least one (1) dose of Hepatitis B is required for entry and the series should be completed on schedule to comply with state regulations.
 
STUDENTS WHO FAIL TO MEET THE ABOVE REQUIREMENTS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO ENROLL IN SCHOOL.
 
  1. KENTUCKY EYE EXAMINATION FORM FOR SCHOOL ENTRY (FORM KDE SHS004)
The Early Childhood Development Law requires all children entering public preschool, public school head start or public school for the first time to have evidence of an eye examination by an optometrist or ophthalmologist.
 
  1. KENTUCKY DENTAL SCREENING/EXAMINATION FORM FOR SCHOOL ENTRY (KDE SHS005)
Kentucky law, KRS 156.160(i) requires proof of a dental screening or examination of a five (5) or six (6) year old who is enrolling in public school. This exam may be performed by a dentist, dental hygienist, physician, registered nurse, advanced registered nurse practitioner, or physician assistant.

Early Dismissal Plan for Inclement Weather
In case of early dismissal due to inclement weather the school will send a call out to parents notifying them of the dismissal time.
Students will remain in their classroom and buses will be called over the intercom as they arrive.
All parent pick up students will be signed out with their homeroom teacher(reminder the person must be on the students sign out card).
In the case of early dismissal there will beno car lanes.

School Bucks 2013-2014

When you shop at Food City please have the cashier scan your ValuCard for Prestonsburg Elementary so that we may participate and receive money for P.E.S. through the School Bucks Educational Program. This will automatically link the two together, which means you will only need to scan one time for this school year.  You may also go online and link your ValuCard through your personal my.foodcity.com account.  The PLU for Prestonsburg Elementary is PLU 40178.
The Program runs August 25, 2013 through May 3, 2014.

Family Resource Center Food Drive
The Prestonsburg Elementary Family Resource Center will be sponsoring a can Food Drive November 4-15.  Items needed:  corn, peas, grean beans, instant potatoes, sweet potatoes, cake mix and icing.  All items will be collected through the homerooms.

Arrival and Dismissal Procedures
 
Arrival and Dismissal Procedures Begin Monday, August 12th!!
 
Arrival Procedures: 
  •  All Students Head Start – 5th Grade will be drop off in the mornings.
  • Note – Kindergarten Parents may walk their child to the gym for the week of August 12th-14th. Beginning August 15th these students will be drop off as well.
  • Note- Head Start parents may walk their child to the classroom August 12-14th. Beginning August 15th these students will be drop off as well.
  • Remember you may use both drop areas (front door & bus lane) beginning at 7:45 AM.
  • All book bags etc. need to be in the front of the car.   Parents should remain in the vehicle at all times.
  • Upon arrival all students should go to the cafeteria to eat breakfast. Students in grades 4 & 5 will remain in the cafeteria to be picked up. Students in grades K-3 will eat and then remain in the gym to be picked up by their teacher at 7:45 AM.
  • All students must have breakfast finished and in the classroom prior to 8:00 AM, or will be counted Tardy.
 Dismissal Procedures:
  • At 2:45 PM, students who ride the first run buses will be dismissed to load the bus.
  • At 2:48 PM, students who are parent pick-up will be dismissed to exit the front door and walk to the lower parking lot.
A.     Kindergarten and Head Start parents will need to walk to the turnaround in front of the school and sign their student out from the teacher on duty.
B.     Parents should park in the lower parking lot in lines facing out towards the highway. As soon as ALL students are in their cars, school staff will alert you to begin exiting the parking lot. Please be considerate of others. 
C.     Cars need to be in the parking lot. Not on the side of the road, near the bus lane or in the faculty/staff parking lot. Parents failing to follow the directions in Items B & C may forfeit their right to be on school grounds under the Floyd County Schools Civility Policy.
D.     Please, Please, Please do not park in the yards of the neighborhood residents. They do become very upset and the police may be called.
E.      NO parents are to enter the building to walk to a classroom without approval from the office at anytime.
  • At 2:51 PM students who are second run bus students, FRC After-School Child Care and faculty/staff children will be dismissed at this time.
